History of the CEH

CEH in Numbers

The Center of Education and Humanities is one of the four Sectorial Centers of UERJ. It has 10 Academic Units, 27 graduation courses, 14 postgraduate programs (Master’s and Doctorate), approximately 800 professors, 300 technical-administrative staff and 11,000 elementary, middle school, graduate and postgraduate students.

It currently has 12 Extension Programs and develops 292 University Extension projects. In addition, it has 91 Laboratories, 103 Centers of Studies and Nuclei, 39 Ateliers and Workshops and 52 Central and Fields of Internship.

The CEH Units

The CEH Academic Units are distributed, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, by the Francisco Negrão de Lima Campus, in the Maracanã neighborhood and in Rio Comprido, where the Application Institute Fernandes Rodrigues da Silveira (CAP-UERJ) is located. There are also important regional campus in the cities of Duque de Caxias and São Gonçalo, where the University of Education of Baixada Fluminense (FEBF) and University of Teacher Training (FFP) are located respectively.

University Graduate Courses

The Center of Education and Humanities plays a very important social role in Rio de Janeiro, offering graduation courses in History of Art, Full Degree in Pedagogy, Visual Arts, Geography, Mathematics, Biological Sciences, History, Physical Education, Portuguese-English, Portuguese-Literature , Literature (English-Literature, Portuguese-Latin, Portuguese-German, Portuguese-Spanish, Portuguese-French, Portuguese-Greek, Portuguese-Italian and Portuguese-Japanese) and Psychology.

It also offers a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts, Art History, Journalism, Public Relations, Physical Education, Letters (English-Literature, Portuguese-Latin, Portuguese-German, Portuguese-Spanish, Portuguese-French, Portuguese-Greek, Portuguese-Italian and Portuguese-Japanese) and Professional in Psychology.

Postgraduate Courses

In order to increase participation in the continued education of the population, the CEH offers 51 Specialization courses in different fields of knowledge. In addition to these, there are stricto sensu courses of Master’s and Doctorate in Arts (Art and Contemporary Culture), Professional Master’s in Teaching in Elementary Education (Daily Life and Elementary School Curriculum), Master’s and Doctorate in Education, Master’s and Doctorate in Communication (Social Communication), Master’s in Education, Culture and Communication (Education, Culture and Communication in Urban Peripheries), Master’s in Teaching of Science, Environment and Society (Teaching of Biology: Biodiversity and Socio-environmental Assessment), Master’s in Geography (Social production of the space: political nature and formative processes in Geography), Master’s in Education (Formative Processes and Social Inequalities), Master’s and Doctorate in Social History (Social History of the Territory), Master’s in Language and Linguistics (Linguistic Studies and Literary Studies), Professional Master’s in Languages in Network (Languages and Literacy), Master’s and Doctorate in Physical Exercise Sciences, Master’s and Doctorate in Language (Theory of Literature and Comparative Literature, Portuguese Language, English and North American Literature, Brazilian Literature, Portuguese Literature), Master’s and Doctorate in Social Psychology and Psychoanalysis (Clinical Research in Psychoanalysis), Master’s and Doctorate in Public Policy and Human Training.
